Principal Field Service Engineer – Digital Pathology, West USA
As the Principal Field Service Engineer, you serve as the highest-level technical authority and strategic lead for Evident’s digital pathology scanner portfolio in the Western United States. Beyond traditional field service, you are a critical bridge between field operations and Global R&D. You will lead the most complex system integrations at Tier-1 medical centers, define global service protocols, and mentor the broader engineering team to ensure the successful digital transformation of high-volume pathology labs.

Core Responsibilities
- Strategic Technical Leadership: Serve as the final escalation point for "Tier 3" hardware, optical, and software failures. Lead emergency recovery efforts for high-priority accounts to ensure uninterrupted patient care.
- Engineering & R&D Liaison: Translate field data into actionable design requirements for next-generation imaging devices. Participate in product design reviews and provide high-level technical feedback to improve global serviceability.
- Enterprise Deployments: Architect and lead the installation and qualification of large-scale, multi-system scanner networks, ensuring seamless integration with customer IT and LIS environments.
- Standardization & Protocol Development: Author standardized testing protocols, preventive maintenance procedures, and technical bulletins used by the global service organization.
- Advanced Mentorship: Act as a "Talent Multiplier" by developing training modules and providing master-level coaching to Senior and Associate engineers on precision optics and robotics.
- Data-Driven Quality Oversight: Utilize system telemetry and field trends to identify systemic safety or quality issues, driving fleet-wide reliability improvements.
- Stakeholder Management: Partner with Sales and Lab Directors as a technical advisor, providing site-readiness assessments and participating in high-level business reviews.
Job Responsibilities
Job Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering is required. A Master’s degree in a related technical field is highly preferred.
- Experience: 10–12+ years of progressive engineering experience, with a minimum of 5 years specializing in high-end medical imaging or digital pathology scanners.
- Technical Mastery:
- Expertise in Linux OS (command line, scripting, and system admin) is required.
- Mastery of optical physics, high-speed robotics, and micrometer-scale precision alignment.
- Deep understanding of network security, HL7/DICOM protocols, and server-client architectures.
- Compliance: Expert knowledge of ISO 13485, FDA medical device regulations, and biomedical safety principles.
- Physical/Travel: Ability to travel 50%–70% as needed (West USA and occasional Global R&D sites); ability to lift equipment up to 70lbs.

Base salary range: $126,863 to $158,579
