Job Description

Perform engineering design and development tasks and assist in various phases of ongoing projects. Work with a dynamic team of systems software electrical and mechanical engineers to improve existing and create new best-in-class products.

Job Duties

  • System Requirements and Features:
    • Contribute to the analysis, understanding and documentation of product requirements and functionalities in collaboration with the system architect and other disciplines;
    • Develop and propose electronic concepts;
    • Characterize the electronic performance requirements of the system including norms and standards;
    • Characterize manufacturing, assembly and after-sales service requirements, in collaboration with operations;
  • Architecture :
    • Contribute to the definition of the optimal product architecture in collaboration with the system architect and other disciplines;
    • Recommend the PCB manufacturer of choice for the product;
    • Make key electronic architecture choices, including critical components and PCB technologies (HDI, Flexible, RigidFlex, etc.);
  • Product Design:
    • Define and perform the electronic design of the complete system;
    • Design complex analog and/or digital circuits (high density, high speed, high sensitivity, etc.);
    • Design system grounding schemes;
    • Develop simulation models of high-speed analog and digital behavior;
    • Ensure the achievement of production cost objectives in collaboration with the project team;
    • Manage the technical risks of development under their responsibility;
    • Oversee electronic product design reviews;
  • Product verification and validation:
    • Define the validation and commissioning protocol for each of the electronic components and subsystems;
        • Ensure that the design complies with industry norms and standards, such as EMC safety, IEC, EN-12668, ISO-18563, EN-15548, IPC, CSA and MIL;
        • Ensure that the design meets system specifications;
        • Analyze the signal integrity (routing, climb time, overshoot, crosstalk, eye diagram, etc.) of all buses and signals of a complete system (inter-board and/or inter-system communication);
      • Transfer to production:
        • Contribute with the project manager to the planning of the work required for the transfer to production;
        • Ensure the transfer to production in an efficient manner;
        • Provide electronic specifications for operations and technical writing;
        • Ensure the updating of manufacturing documents in the PLM tool (Bill of Materials, Schematic, Gerber, etc.).
    • General Responsibilities

      • Contribute to technology monitoring in order to maintain our leadership position by integrating cutting-edge tools and technologies into our product developments;
      • Be on the lookout for good development practices, recommend improvements and work to standardize our work methods;
      • Contribute to the training and sharing of knowledge on new technologies likely to meet the needs of our developments;
      • Be an internal reference in his/her field in terms of working methods and technologies;
      • Collaborate with the various stakeholders to resolve inter-departmental technical problems;
      • Support less experienced electronics designers working on the same project;

       

       

Job Requirements

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering with 10 years of experience in analog and/or digital circuit design or equivalent;
  • Master's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering is an asset;

Technical skills:

  • Member of the Order of Engineers, strongly desired (Quebec only);
  • Demonstrated experience in organizing and monitoring development work in projects;
  • Mastery of schematization, routing and design constraints (Expedition or equivalent);
  • Mastery of SPICE simulation tools and signal integrity validation tools and power supplies (Hyperlynx or equivalent);
  • Knowledge of NDT standards (EN-12668, ISO-18563, EN-15548) a plus;
  • Knowledge of standards in electromagnetic compatibility, safety and electronic manufacturing (IEC 61326-1, IEC 61000-6-2, IEC 61000-6-4, IEC 61010-1, IPC 610/620, CSA, MIL);
  • Knowledge of signal processing (Nyquist, Fourier, Laplace);
  • Basic knowledge of C and Matlab;
  • Basic knowledge of C++, Python, an asset;
