Job Description
The Strategic Sourcing Manager is responsible for driving cost reduction, managing vendor relationships, and eliminating unfavorable risk to our production plans as it pertains to the supply chain. This role will require a strong leader that can work together with other cross functional teams to problem solve, communicate effectively, and drive change to increase company profitability. The strategic sourcing manager will implement commodity sourcing strategies based on existing customers and supply challenges. Position will work cross-functionally with Planning, Engineering, Finance, Purchasing, and Quality to integrate strategic planning for NPI and released products, optimize resources, and implement process improvements to meet customer requirements and business objectives. The Strategic Sourcing Manager is also responsible for managing production risk as it pertains to the hand-off of new products to the Production team.
Job Duties
- Execution and development of commodity strategy. This includes segmenting the commodity into sourceable categories, developing and executing supply base strategies to improve supplier performance (cost, quality, delivery), and ensuring appropriate levels of capacity to support business-unit demand.
- Work closely with site team of Buyers on compliance to global harmonized systems, tools and supply chain processes and best practice escalation of issue in the supply base.
- Manage supplier relationships and opportunities for cost-out and product/supplier improvement, while ensuring production, delivery, and capacity requirements for all commodities.
- Identify Critical and Strategic suppliers; work with Supply Chain and Quality to qualify secondary suppliers.
- Team with Design Engineering on NPI and identify potential risk components, processes, and suppliers. Present recommendations to mitigate those risks.
- Be a liaison among DENG, PENG, and Production regarding schedules and timing for the transfer of new products (NPI) to Production.
- Identify high-risk and critical components in our existing products and present alternatives and potential sources of supply. Be the resident expert on software tools (HIS, Silicon Expert, etc) to assist with these tasks.
- Negotiate strategic supplier agreements, contracts, and purchase terms and conditions; be a key stakeholder in hosting quarterly business reviews (QBR) with critical suppliers.
- Implements strategic purchasing policies for supplier selection, supplier base optimization and material procurement and techniques.
- Manages material supply to NPI projects ensuring delivery in accordance with the project plan at the pre- and pilot phases. Maintain and communicate schedules.
Job Requirements
Education*:
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution
Experience*:
- 5+ Years’ Experience in commodity management or strategic sourcing in a high tech/fast paced manufacturing-based business
Skills:
- Familiarity with MRP, SRM tools (Coupa experience a plus), JIT, lean manufacturing, kanban a plus
- Engineering and design understanding a plus
- Negotiating skills
- Demonstrated understanding of key financial metrics
- Analytical and technical ability to understand business practices and expected outcomes while recommending automated solutions
