Job Description

The Acoustic Test Production Engineering Co-op will support the Transducer Production Engineering team and transducer production by focusing on the physical measurement, analysis, and optimization of acoustic systems. The Co-op will apply fundamental principles of waves, vibrations, and electromagnetism to support the improvement of the transducer test systems through activities such as new physical measurement development, test plan revisions, new equipment qualifications, and test program modifications.

Job Duties

The duties of this role are grounded in the practical application of physics concepts to real-world engineering challenges.

  • Lead a primary project assigned for the co-op term, applying physical modeling and experimental methods from inception to completion.

  • Assist the Sr. Acoustics Engineer in the evaluation, development, and implementation of new test systems and protocols, focusing on signal fidelity, wave propagation mechanics, and electro-acoustic conversion efficiency.

  • Assist production and production engineering with projects, providing physics-based troubleshooting for test system anomalies.

  • Review and Update Test Plans and Procedures to ensure they accurately reflect the underlying physical parameters being measured (e.g., impedance, frequency response, pressure fields).

  • Perform quantitative analysis of experimental manufacturing data using Excel, Power BI, and other software tools to correlate production variations with changes in transducer physics.

  • Create and update documentation for manufacturing standard of work, detailing the physical setup and calibration of test equipment.

  • Conduct studies and propose improvements to the test process flow, applying principles of efficiency and measurement uncertainty minimization based on Lean Manufacturing principles.

  • Read and understand basic engineering drawings, schematics, block diagrams, and electrical component specifications, with an emphasis on the physical interaction between electrical signals and mechanical/acoustic output

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in experimental physics and quantitative analysis.

  • Currently pursuing BS or MS degree in Physics or Applied Physics (Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or other Engineering disciplines also considered).

  • Demonstrated analytical and physical problem-solving skills, particularly in areas like vibration analysis, circuit theory, or wave mechanics.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting experimental results and technical conclusions.

  • Ability to work in teams and collaborate effectively with people in different functions

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.

  • Strong background in Physics is a significant advantage, specifically in Acoustics, Electromagnetism, or Experimental Design.

  • Programming experience in LabView, C#, or Python is a plus, especially for data acquisition and instrument control.

  • Experience with simple RLC circuits and tuning components (capacitors, inductors) is a plus, focusing on resonance and impedance matching.

  • Experience with laboratory instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, multi-meters, and specialized acoustic equipment like pulser/receivers is a plus.

  • Strong time management skills that enable on-time project delivery.

  • Ability to take the initiative and drive for results.
