Job Description

Work location:  Bethlehem, PA; or remote and willing to travel to Bethlehem up to 1-2 times per month.

 

We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Senior Manager, Global Trade Compliance to lead and oversee our global trade compliance program. This role ensures the company’s adherence to all applicable U.S. and international export controls, sanctions, and trade regulations—safeguarding both operational continuity and legal compliance. You will serve as the subject matter expert, guiding leadership and the business in navigating complex compliance requirements, mitigating risk, and fostering a strong culture of integrity.

Job Duties

•    Compliance Oversight – Manage company global compliance with import entry and export clearance processes in accordance with relevant governing US and foreign laws and regulations, including those established by the US Department of Commerce, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (GACC), Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Japan Customs, Germany’s Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA), and Germany’s Federal Customs Administration, and other relevant foreign governing bodies. Develop and maintain internal trade compliance policies and procedures.
•    Classification & Master Data – Execute classification activities and maintain Master Data in SAP.
•    Customs & Broker Management – Lead relationships with customs brokers; monitor performance through quarterly business reviews, KPIs, and scorecards.
•    Sanctions & Export Controls – Conduct risk assessments and ensure timely review of updated export controls and newly designated parties under U.S., EU, UK and APAC sanctions.
•    Regulatory Monitoring & Training – Oversee compliance with global trade laws and regulations, including CBP, Foreign Trade Regulations (FTR), Partner Government Agencies (PGAs), preferably in the life sciences (research and clinical) industry. Track proposed laws and regulations; advise stakeholders on implications for the business strategy. Conduct necessary training to keep the business apprised of relevant and updated requirements.
•    Investigations & Disclosures – Work with in-house and external counsel on investigations into potential non-compliance and prepare disclosures to relevant authorities.
•    Operational Support – Provide day-to-day compliance guidance, issue resolution, and trade compliance support to the business. Manage export licenses or license exceptions, as needed.
•    Third-Party Management – Coordinate external support for project-based compliance needs.
•    Government Engagement – Coordinate with in-house counsel to represent the company in communications with government officials.
•    Culture of Compliance – Promote awareness and training to embed compliance principles across the organization.

Oversee and collaborate with internal trade compliance staff to ensure timely and accurate execution of compliance activities.

Job Requirements

Education:
•    Bachelor’s degree required. Masters a plus.
Experience:
•    10+ years’ proven experience in global trade compliance and experience in building a global trade compliance program, preferably in the life sciences industry
Skills & Knowledge:
•    Strong working knowledge of EAR and related regulations.
•    Expertise in EAR classification for life science and medical device hardware and software.
•    Familiarity with Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTSUS), CF28, post summary corrections (PSC), and free trade agreement analysis.
•    Proficiency in U.S. government authorization systems
•    Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
